Albert Renger-Patzsch
'The World is Beautiful'

A German photographer associated with 'New Objectivity' (a reaction against expressionism). His best known book, 'The world is beautiful', is a collection of 100 of his photographs in which natural forms, industrial spaces, subjects and mass produced objects are presented with the clarity of scientific illustration. 
Renger-Patzsch believed photography was a way to reproduce the texture of reality. He believed in the realism of photography and was fascinated by every day objects.

Ishiuchi Miyako
Hiroshima

A Japanese photographer who photographed the clothes of victims from the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. She was interested in capturing social conditions in a country haunted by the memories of WWII.

Andrew Langford
Species

"The objects used in these large collage pieces come from the natural world, but were far removed from being perfect, exotic or unique specimens."

Ed Ruscha
'26 Gasoline Stations'

'26 Gasoline Stations' is often considered to be the first modern artists book and was also Ed Ruscha's first book. The book is made up of what the title states - 26 images of 26 gas stations. The book follows Ruscha's journey from Los Angeles to Oklahoma City where he grew up and the gas stations in-between.

Bettina Von Zwehl

Bettina Von Zwehl uses a deadpan approach when creating portraits. Her subjects are not engaged at all with her or the camera and are mostly in silhouette which creates a feeling of unease.

Marten Lange
Citizen

A Swedish photographer who works mainly in the photobook medium. 'Citizen' transforms the common pigeon into a beautiful protagonist. In an interview Lange said, "we share urban life with the pigeons, they are citizens too".
