ASSIGNMENT 1 TUTOR FEEDBACK & REWORK

TUTOR FEEDBACK

I was pleased with my tutor feedback for ‘square mile’ but was told that I had covered a few bases in one submission with different themes. This was interesting to here as to me I felt like the series of photos fit well together but seeing my work through someone elses eyes helped me to understand that I need a stronger, bolder idea. I needed to create a consistent concept, which also made me think that I really need to sit and do some thorough planning next time but I was eager to get out there and make a start. He also said that I could do with more shots and that it's better to have a lot to work with than too less. I completely agree with this and will make sure that for Assignment 2 I have a lot more on my contact sheets so that I have more to play around with.

My Tutor said I should have enough shots to rework what I have so I’m going to try to play around with what I have. If this still doesn’t feel right, I will go out and re shoot.

We discussed the themes that my tutor seemed to think stuck out from my contact sheets. These were; barriers, journeying and looking through screens. From what my tutor suggested, the looking through screens idea stuck out to me. Below I will have a play around with some of my images and try to put together a new series based around that idea but develop it using my own initiative.

'SQUARE MILE' - REWORK

Looking through

Above is my final set of images for my re-work of Assignment one. I played around with adding some new photos from my contact sheets and re-edited some of the originals with cropping and colours. I feel so much happier with these images and feel like they follow a coherent and strong concept. Each image is 'looking through' something.

Image 1

Looking through the metal work of the station bridge to the railway tracks and the platform.

Image 2

Looking through and past the orchard trees to the end of the disappearing line.

Image 3

Looking through another bridge, this time much older and rusty, out on to the train tracks and surrounding landscape.

Image 4

Looking through and up past the stairs of the railway bridge.

Image 5

Looking through the arches of the bridge up to the sky.

Image 6

Looking through the trees to the sun starting to set.

These images sit very well together. They each show the sky within the frame and all have a rustic look to them with greens, browns and blues, which stays true to my original idea or wanting to give my series an old worldy feel to echo the design of the train station.

I didn't feel the need to go out and re shoot for this assignment and also didn't want to where the weather had changed, making any new shots look different to my originals but I do wish that I had taken a lot more photos like my tutor agreed with. I would of had a lot more to work with and may have quite possibly come up with a completely different theme to what I originally had but I wanted to work with what I had and am very pleased with the result.
